I was looking through wikipedia, you know how it is, you find one thing it least to another and another link..
This is the chain which led to this article I read,
Article 1: Crack cocaine ~> SIDS ~> Infanticide ~> Freezer Babies Case ~> Death of Baby P
It's really terrible reading stories like this, but it's a reminder of how messed up the system is and how cruel some people can be.
This is a picture of Peter Connelly a 17 month old who lived in London and died after receiving 50 injuries over an 8 month period. The case alias which prevented him from being known are Baby P, Child A and Baby Peter.
The rest i'm going to just quote from Wikipedia
The Abuse
"Peter Connelly was born to Tracey Connelly on 1 March 2006. In November, Connelly's new boyfriend, Steven Barker, moved in with her. In December, a GP noticed bruises on Peter's face and chest. His mother was arrested and Peter was put into the care of a family friend, but returned home to his mother's care in January 2007. Over the next few months, Peter was admitted to hospital on two occasions suffering from injuries including bruising, scratches and swelling on the side of the head. Connelly was arrested again in May 2007.[12]
In June 2007, a social worker observed marks on Peter and informed the police. A medical examination concluded that the bruising was due to abuse. On 4 June, the baby was placed with a friend for safeguarding. Over a month later, on 25 July, Haringey Council's Children & Young People's Service obtained legal advice which indicated that the "threshold for initiating Care Proceedings...was not met".[13]
On 1 August 2007, Baby Peter was seen at St. Ann's Hospital in north London by locum pediatrician Dr. Sabah Al-Zayyat.[14] A post-mortem examination later revealed a broken back and ribs, among a number of other injuries, that are believed to have pre-dated Al-Zayyat's examination.
On 2 August, Connelly was informed that she would not be prosecuted."
Death
"On 3 August 2007, an ambulance was called and Peter was found in his cot, blue and clad only in a nappy.[16] After attempts at resuscitation, he was taken to North Middlesex hospital with his mother but was pronounced dead at 12:20 pm.[17] A post-mortem revealed he had swallowed a tooth after being punched. Other injuries included a broken back, broken ribs, having the tips of fingers sliced off, and nails pulled out.[18]
The police immediately began a murder investigation and Connelly was arrested.[17] So too were Barker, his brother Jason Owen and his 15-year-old girlfriend, who had fled to and were hiding in a campsite in Epping Forest."
Conviction
"On 11 November 2008, Owen, 36, and his brother Barker, 32, were found guilty of "causing or allowing the death of a child or vulnerable person".[7] Connelly, 27, had pleaded guilty to this charge.[7] Earlier in the trial, Owen and Connelly had been cleared of murder due to insufficient evidence.[20] Barker was found not guilty of murder by a jury.[21]
A second trial occurred in April 2009, when Connelly and Barker, under aliases, faced charges related to the rape of a two-year old girl. The girl was also on Haringey's child protection register. Barker was found guilty of rape, while Connelly was found not guilty of child cruelty charges.[22] Their defence lawyers argued that this second trial was nearly undermined by bloggers publishing information (linking them to the death of Peter) which could have prejudiced the jury.[23]
Sentencing for both trials together took place on 22 May 2009 at the Old Bailey. Connelly was ordered to be held indefinitely,
until "deemed no longer to be a risk to the public and in particular to
small children", with a minimum term of five years. Barker was
sentenced to life imprisonment
for the rape, with a minimum sentence of ten years, and a 12-year
sentence for his role in the death of Peter, to run concurrently. Owen
was also jailed indefinitely, and would serve at least three years.[24] The sentences were criticised as too lenient by the NSPCC's chief executive,[25] and the Attorney General considered referring them to the Court of Appeal for review,[26]
but concluded there was "no realistic prospect" of the Court of Appeal
increasing the sentences. The three appealed against their sentences,[27] Barker against both convictions and sentences."
Ok this is the crazy part.
1. First arrest - December 2006 - Returned to mother January 2007
2. Second arrest - May 2007 - Was put into care of a friend June 2007 - Obviously somewhere down the line the friend let the kid go out with his parents on multiple occasions
3. he was returned to the mother a 3rd time - August 2007
That's 3 times, she was arrested twice, then the one time they give the kid to a friend who obviously did not have him in her care, and THEY STILL returned the kid back to the parents. 3 Seperate occasions!
Ok this happened in the UK but I have no doubt things like this happen in the US too, How fucked up is their
Social service system? How many times does a 1 year old need to get beaten in before you realize maybe this kid shouldn't be with the people abusing him?
Not only did the parents kill him but the people running the social service system in his case killed him.
The Pediatrician Dr. Sabah Al-Zayyat. who had an appointment to see him August 1, 2007 did not check him due to him being grouchy and misbehaving, but if she had checked him she would have seen that he had a broken rib and a broken back.
It essentially could have saved his life, but it's not her fault.
They should have seen that shit a lonng time ago. Even before that appointment.
It shouldn't have even made it to 3 times.
It's such a sad story, and worst that it's true, I mean what are these parents thinking when they see that defenseless kid baby, who probably can't even talk yet, can barely stand up.. why, how could anybody with a heart do something so.. there isn't even a word to describe the abuse to a child. It just shouldn't be.
I swear you know there are people out there who are dying to have kids and just can't seem to have them no matter how many times they try, and then they have people like this who are able to have kids and they abuse and kill them.
How unfair is that. Why have kids if that's what your going to do to them?
[this is good] Every time I read the details of what this precious child experienced at the hands of his " mother", I feel like there is a stone caught in my throat. If I cried until I die I would still have that lump. Seeing the light sentences these human filth received makes me want to vomit in their mouths as they are held down and brutalized with the same tactics they used on this baby.
